BIO

When Yasmine popped into this world to her Finnish mother and African father in the 90’s, her papa looked at Yassu’s mother like…

because the kid looked like she was Asian.

“What do you wanna be when you grow up?”

“I AM a singer.”

From a young age she enjoyed expressing herself through drawing, colorful clothes, hairstyles (cut herself bangs) and by inventing dance routines with her dad.

8-year old Yasmine participated in the national Karuselli singing contest and made it to the semifinals.

The usual music nerd background: music oriented primary middle and high school. Orchestra, double bass, music theory, dance classes, performance training programmes….

….choirs, band, big band, singing classes, acapella group. Etc.

And it all begins.

2008

Y was selected to the lead role of High School Musical produced by the Helsinki City Theater and was awarded the Ensi Linja Award for Most Promising New Musical Theater Talent.

The years 2009-2012 were busy. Yasmine graduated, studied music in Copenhagen and London, did three musicals, and featured on Finland’s most successful rap artist Cheek’s number one radio hit Syypää sun hymyyn.

2014

Yasmine signed a record deal with Sony Music Finland and started working on her first solo release while still touring with Cheek. At this point she started having issues with her voice due to working non-stop and inner conflicts within her artistry.

2017

Yasmine ended up terminating the record deal with Sony Music Finland. At that time she was giving her voice to the Finnish Moana who also struggled with not feeling aligned with what people were expecting of her. Coincidence?

In the following years Y re-invented and explored her style and identity as an artist and little by little songs started to emerge..

Fast forward - in 2022 Yasmine signed a contract with Infinite Records to release her first solo album.

What a frickin ride it has been.

And it has only begun.
